Wild Geese: Flock Together
Meet the Flock
Fiberglass sculptures painted by regional artists can be found in many forms including cows in Chicago and Harrisburg, fish and frogs in Erie, bears in Boyertown, and groundhogs in Punxsutawney. Mifflin County and the Juniata Valley have added geese to this list thanks to Community Partnerships (RC&D)’s region-wide public art project Wild Geese: Flock Together. History
Excerpt from the Lewistown Sentinel
In 2018, Kay Hamilton, project director of Success Together — a group of stakeholders from across Mifflin County, invited Community Partnerships to introduce the project idea. The group had identified a need for a mascot that represented the community and would recognize the cultural identity of the area. These goals lined up with the Wild Geese project plans and Community Partnerships welcomed the immediate outpouring of support.
Kay Hamilton, Beth Reifsnyder and the Mifflin County Commissioners Kevin Kodish, Steve Dunkle and Robert Postal supported the venture with Community Partnerships chosen to lead. The committee swiftly went to work to raise the required startup funds for the prototype mold. Contributions came in many forms from all over the community.
